To celebrate the construction of White Deer Park with its environmental education center, the Town of Garner is hosting the Inaugural White Deer Dash 5K and Family Fun Run. By highlighting various "green" practices, this event will not only be fun for the family but good for the environment.
Staged at neighboring Lake Benson Park, for the first year, this event will provide fitness and environmental education opportunities for everyone in the family. Booths will feature information explaining how simple environmental initiatives can make a big impact.
The event will crown the Fastest Kid in Garner through a dash open to all elementary school students (K-5). In addition, there will be inflatable amusements for the children.
""Walking and running are both activities that have low costs, are environmentally friendly and provide a great work out. The Family Fun Run is an opportunity for
families to spend quality time together while participating in a healthy activity. The Town is excited to feature such important activities," said Rodney Dickerson, Assistant Town Manager.
The participation cost for the 5K race is $25 if registered before December 5, 2008; after December 5, the cost is $30. The Fun Run is $10 per participant, however, the first 150 children 12 and under are free.
