North Carolina has awarded more than $29 million for highway projects across the state.
The state Department of Transportation said Friday that 15 contracts have been awarded for highway and bridge projects.
Seven of the projects will be funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. They will begin in late August, September and October.
Department officials say work on the other eight projects could begin in August. They will be completed over the next year and include road resurfacing.
Gov. Beverly Perdue says the projects will create jobs and increase road safety.
